Dumb question I'm sure, but is there a way to change the hold animation so the left hand doesn't clip with front grips?

Not dumb at all and the answer is complicated.

You can change the hold animation a few ways. One brute force example would be to replace the weapon_hold="m4_usasoc_shorty" in the main.xml with, say, weapon_hold="tecci" if you want it held by the vertical grip. You'd also need to go into the newraycastweaponbase and change weapon_tweak_data.weapon_hold = "m4_usasoc" and weapon_tweak_data.weapon_hold = "m4_usasoc" into weapon_tweak_data.weapon_hold = "tecci".

This will hard override the weapon hold animation into using the Bootleg/HK416C hold animations, assuming the current vertical grip placements are even aligned with the Bootleg animation. You also run into the problem of breaking the reload animation (obvious jumps between the current C Clamp and holding it by the vertical grip) as well as breaking your sight stances.

There's unfortunately no solution if you want the gun held specifically by the angled grip, short of paying PlayBONK a bit of money for entirely new animations.


The original animation wasn't made with vertical grips in mind and in the original iterations, you couldn't actually equip vertical/angled grips for this reason. I only added vertical/angled grip "compatibility" (compatible in the sense you can attach those grips to the gun) because I wanted more things to attach to my rifle builds and could live with the animation issues.
