I don't know why i'm hearing this strange sound after firing a few bullets.
Here's an example, problem marked as "*"

I know what you are talking about and that is a problem with the sound itself.
The sound you are hearing ~1-2 seconds after the fire noise is me forgetting to cut out the bullet drop casings sound from the recording. I will fix that in the next update.

If you're curious, the base XM4 firing noise (not the Black Ops 1 version) is a Youtube to MP3 from various a Black Ops Cold War Weapon Showcase video.

For weapon sounds, I would either record the sound to the best of my ability or find the raw sounds themselves, but the base XM4 was impossible for me to get for various reasons:

-I don't own BOCW and can't load up a private match
-Free weekend wasn't purchaseable on Battle.net for me,
-The Greyhound asset extraction couldn't find the raw weapon sounds on my end
-I could do it through Warzone, but that requires a lot of things to line up. Specifically, I need to find an XM4 with no suppressor, find a nice quiet area with as little background audio as possible, and then pray I don't get jumped by some sweaty tryhard while recording.

@RJC9000
Thank you for this update and for such an exhaustive answer^_^

@RJC9000 Just curious: any reason you decided on the Cold War sounds vs the BO1 sounds (aside from it being closer to the one in Cold War)?

Both BOCW sounds and Black Ops 1 sounds are available for the XM4, with the default being the BOCW sounds and the Black Ops 1 sounds being available in an attachment. In that bug report, I was just pointing out that the base XM4 firing noise might seem lower quality due having to resort to doing Youtube to MP3 to get the BOCW XM4 firing noise, rather than recording the fire sound from ingame, or ripping the firing sound out of the files.

If you're wondering why I used the BOCW sounds as the default: if the weapon appears multiple times in a series, I try to use its default appearance the default sounds, while adding sounds from other depictions for players who prefer a different depiction of the weapon.

For example, for my Halo 2 Battle Rifle, the model itself takes the appearance of the BR55 from Halo 2 Anniversary, which is why the default sounds for that weapon is the H2:A sounds. But some people might like the Halo 3 BR sounds better, or even the original Halo 2 sounds, so I added those sounds to the BR55 for those people who like the sounds from the other games.

Similarly, this weapon is representing both the XM4 from BOCW and the Commando from Black Ops 1. The default look makes it look XM4 from BOCW so the default sounds come from BOCW, while the BO1 Commando sounds are available for those who prefer the BO1 sounds.
