Viewmodel Recoil (No Camera Recoil)
About
I made this in an afternoon because "No Screen Shake Deluxe" wasn't enough.
This mod changes recoil to move the viewmodel instead of the camera.
Without Viewmodel Recoil:
- When firing, the entire camera moves (as if you were moving your mouse).
With Viewmodel Recoil:
- When hip-firing, your arms/weapon move instead, while your camera stays still.
Note: For aiming down sights, this is disabled, preserving the original camera-moving behavior. However, you can opt to disable this in the settings; this will result in your sights being inaccurate to where the weapon is actually pointing, but this may be preferable if you tend to suffer from severe motion sickness.
Balance Information
- No, this mod does not remove recoil as a mechanic.
- When using this mod, recoil (specifically as it pertains to impeding your aim) is not identical to base PD2. In most cases, the recoil will be stronger when using viewmodel-based recoil, compared to the camera-based recoil that base PD2 normally uses.
- Base weapon stats (Accuracy/Stability, aka spread/recoil; as well as kick and shake values) are not changed, unlike in other similar mods. Viewmodel-based recoil still reflects individual weapon kick and stability stats.
- Weapon/Camera Shake is not affected. Please use "No Screen Shake Deluxe" (linked below) to disable shake.
- When a bipod is active, recoil is nullified entirely (this is unchanged from base PD2 behavior).
Demo video:
Note: This is an old video that does not showcase all of this mod's features. Crosshair and HUD mod not included. Red debug lines and debug recoil info in the top left are not included, and are only for visual demonstration.
Compatibility and Recommended Mods
- Does not work in VR. (VR comes with its own version of this)
- Not compatible with Tactical Leaning. I'll add a compatibility patch sometime in the future.
- Not compatible with Static Recoil due to overwriting the same function- however, you can enable Static Recoil mode in the Mod Options menu for this mod. (Note: This only affects aim-down-sights, since camera muzzle climb is normally disabled by this mod.)
- May cause unintended behavior when using Perfect Viewmodel, since Viewmodel Recoil causes bullets to go where the weapon is pointing, and Perfect Viewmodel can change where your weapon is pointing.
- Compatible with No Screen Shake Deluxe. (Recommended for motion-sickness-havers and people who hate screen shake effects)
- Recommended: Advanced Crosshairs, Hitmarkers, and Hitsounds will accurately show the crosshair at the actual weapon aiming position if you turn on the "Enable Shake" option in the Crosshairs menu. (The "Hitmarkers at World Position" option in the Hitmarkers menu is also recommended.)
- Recommended: Less Inaccurate Weapon Laser alongside a laser gadget will accurately show the actual weapon aiming position.
