Weapon commissioned by Data Zero.
Thanks to PlayBONK for the interesting animation work!
The TKB0146 Prototype is unlocked at level 55 and will appear as the VHS (Lion's Roar).
The TKB should perform similarly to the existing VHS. The TKB has significantly lower ammo pickup (2-5) compared to the VHS, but fires accurate and quick bursts at a ridiculous 1200 RPM.
If burst fire weapons are not your style, you can optionally use one of the internals from the Gage DLCs to use the gun in full auto (or semi auto, if you like getting carpal tunnel syndrome). Using either of the internals will drop the RPM back down to 600 RPM.
Probable Future Asked Questions
Q: Hey wait a minute, wasn't the TKB-0146 a 2 round burst gun?
A: Correct, that version of the TKB-0146 was the gun that lost to what would become the AN94. This is the "TKB-0146 Prototype" because the modeler went with an early 3 round burst prototype that is only available in a museum.
that being said, maybe DMC/ResMod can share their tech to make this gun a 2 round burst? I wouldn't mind making this a 2 round burst gun for the sake of variety, even if it results in the gun technically being inaccurate to the model depicted.
Q: On empty reload, why do you rack the charging handle twice?
A: Because of the weird spring loading mechanism the rifle has. You rack the charging handle once to load a bullet into the intermediary feeding position, then once again to load the first bullet into the chamber and a second into the intermediary position.
Note that said information was about the Abakan version of the gun which fired in 2 round bursts like the AN94, not the 3 round burst prototype that the model is based on. We had an internal discussion on whether or not the gun should be racked 3 times when considering the Abakan finalists had unique feeding mechanisms to load all the bullets of burst into the chamber before the user felt the recoil impulse from the first shot. We ultimately decided on just racking the charging handle twice since we have such limited information on the gun, we should go with what is confirmed (albeit for a different version of the rifle) rather than purely speculation.
Q: Why doesn't the gun fire at 2000 RPM when on the default burst fire mode? Why is the gun only available in locked semi auto/full auto/burst only?
A: I actually did try the TKB when the gun was set to 2000 RPM for burst fire. Then it felt too cheap, even if that is the point of weapons tech: to make a fight as unfair as possible for the enemy.
As for locking the weapon in to certain fire modes: the TKB that was submitted to the Abakan trials can be fired on either burst fire, or a two stage trigger which changes between semi/full auto depending on how far back you held the trigger. I did want to represent that weird trigger property with Dr. Newbie's variable fire rate script, but I was unable to figure out how to implement it into the TKB (as well as Pawcio mentioning the script is rather unstable).
I could have then made the gun semi+auto by default (if technically inaccurate to the operation of how the semi+full auto mode works), but then most people would dismiss the TKB as "yet another" assault rifle.
As for why the fire modes are locked: Data only wanted the gun in burst/semi, not only as a stylistic choice but also to mimic the fire modes available on this pre-Abakan trials prototype. I believe the rifle's selector markings are actually safe/burst/semi-auto, since there is only "O" on this version of the markings, not the "O-A" that the Abakan trials gun has with its two stage trigger. So I included burst as the default mode, the semi auto lock because of commission request, and the full auto lock for most people who hate burst fire guns/hate getting carpal tunnel syndrome.
