The Armory presents the Berthier rifle series, a commission by Bell.
The Berthier Rifle series will appear to other players as the Mosin Nagant is unlocked at level 54.
The main appeal of this mod is most mainline Berthier variants are available. The rifle starts out in the Mle 1892 cavalry carbine depiction, but attachments allow you to outright change variants, from the famous like the Mle 07/15 variant, to the relatively obscure like the Turkish Orman variant.
Historical accuracy a priority with this mod, whether it was the forbids on the pattern of bayonet to the animation of the 3 round en-bloc clip falling out after you've cycled your last shot. We did have to made some concessions for gameplay/commission reasons such as the addition of gadgets/Pawcio's iron sights.
Gameplay wise, it's a 480 damage sniper rifle and Bell explicitly wanted us to leave Graze in, so you probably know what to expect. There is quite a bit of fun in seeing real life considerations of the rifle actually make a gameplay impact, like needing to bayonet enemies to protect yourself during a reload (or charging towards enemies with bayonet ready to proc Bloodthirst Ace). Some reload animations are also faster if the clip is empty/has only one round left in the gun, such as on the M.34 Berthier.
Requirements:
SUPERBLT, BEARDLIB, and WEAPONLIB are required mods.
Tactical Bolt Check Standalone, Weapon Rename Tweak Data, Weapon Painter, Pawcio's Iron Sights, and Custom Attachments for Custom Weapons are OPTIONAL mods that have features in the Berthier rifle series.
Known Issues:
The Berthier M.34 variant has ... interesting ... normals due to the model tool throwing a tantrum on the tangents. Sorry, people, Forgotten Hope 2 was the only known source of a M.34 rifle, we would have picked a more modern asset if a more modern asset existed.
Probable Future Asked Questions:
Q: My gun plays the clip ejection sound on every shot, wtf?
A: Make sure you have the most recent updated versions of Tactical Bolt Check (1.16+) and if you're using Advanced Movement make sure that is updated (1.94+) as well.
Q: There's a problem with animations/attachments or other weirdness.
A: Make sure you have the most recent version of WeaponLib (1.7.0+), it recently received a lot of new features and fixes.
Q: Non Weaponlib version? My crashes are because WEPONLIP DID IT and not from my pile of customOST/body pillows/HUDs/retextures!!!!
A: No. You need Weaponlib for the animation and code side of this mod.
Q: Hold up, you guys do huge weapon commissions like this now?
A: I guess we do. Though I am not sure we will undertake a project of this scale so soon, if ever again due to most players not having a huge wallet to pay us for a project like this.
Q: Can we please have suppressors and modern optics? I need the ATF's scary muzzle devices and airsoft red dot, now!!!!
A: No. You will learn to appreciate your antique WW1 rifle and use the technology of the time, not duct tape 50 things on it as if it were an AR15. We only added the Pawcio irons by request of the commission.
Q: Skinmaps?
A: Unfortunately, Bell decided to hire rjc as the "texture maker", so you will have to live without your anime camo Berthier.
Q: REEEEE French bolt action rifle series is too stronk/week, need buff/nerf!!!!
A: Go into the stats and change things yourself.
