According to the official OpenIV twitter, the modding software has been requested to be taken down by Take Two, GTAV's publisher, to which the OpenIV team responded with taking the software offline.

The Cease-and-Desist letter which was received on the 5th of June claims:

OpenIV allows third parties to defeat security features and modify the software in violation of Take-Two's rights.

If this holds true then from now on modding GTA is deemed illegal, and will most likely force all modders, who worked on their mods, for years, assuming that some of them were there since GTA III, to take down all their work.

What do you think about it?

Do you think that Take-Two is right about this? I personally think that stating the work of thousand of people suddenly illegal is not okay, specifically because many mod authors put a lot of time into their creations. What if this happens someday to PAYDAY 2? Looking at how there now is a precedent, we could have this happen at any time. We can only hope that Take Two changed their mind after all this bad publicity. Feel free to post your thoughts about it.
