New game got you down? Let's get some PAYBACK.
So, a decade ago I made a mod called HUD+. Since then I've made other stuff for PAYDAY, but mostly left modding behind. However, seeing the still-active modding community of PAYDAY: The Heist has genuinely inspired me. So I decided to bring back the best part of my old mod (and the part that won't conflict with modern LUA modding).
I love that these games, especially this one, fully disconnected from any server or DLC removal nonsense, are becoming communal toyboxes. So, I wanted to pay back the community, at least a little.
Using the many assets PAYDAY has given us over the years, CLIP studio, and a lot of patience, I have given a Heat-theme style overhaul to the health bar and mask icons. Now, the suit associated with your character will be shown in the right colours. On top of that, some small details that were lost in the downscaling and compression of the masks has been restored.
I made this with current popular mods for PDTH in mind. The mask icons used for the custom health panel in _hud by Atom are improved. Variants are available for the Restored Troll Mask mod by Zdann, the Hoxton Reborn version of the excellent Live-Action Clown Masks mod by SH4Y0X, as well as PAYDAY 2 masks, and some Paycheck Gang core masks inspired by beta screenshots.
And, obviously, this will not conflict with DAHM hud. In fact, I would encourage you use it.
It should also not conflict with any HUD mods which don't affect the team_health and hud_icons_mask files. You should be able to use it with MurshK's FedNet-style UI, for instance.
Hopefully I didn't mess something up. I probably did.
QUESTIONS:
Q: Wait, are you the real-?
A: Yeah.
Q: Can you add X feature?
A: I'll see, I'm really busy.
Q: Any future plans?
A: Maybe doing PD2 suit versions of the HUD for that mod, and a maskless version for the clowns if I can be bothered to recreate Hoxton and Chains' faces. The transparency seems missing, maybe it's how I saved the file? But I needed the extra compression space for the color. I could probably fix that but I really don't want to rerender all of these again unless there turns out to be interest. It looks fine to me.
