I used to do it this way because I'd never have corrupted audio, or any issues like that. However, a much easier way is using my tool, PD3AudioModder.

Note for music:

The replacement audio has to be the same length as the original audio for it to loop properly, it is more annoying. I tend to not mod music so this guide may not be as useful for that.
