Shotgun Overhaul
Shotgun Overhaul reworks all the shotguns in the game, giving them a more grounded feel while also rebalancing them to fit better with Payday 2's other weapon types. Since the game's launch shotguns have had the following issues:
- Shotguns always deal full damage regardless of how many pellets hit. Headshots are prioritised making them easy to get, invalidating the purpose of rounds like flechette (armor piercing; why even bother hitting bodies?) and slugs (range). Inversely this makes barrel stuffing feel bad since it's wasted damage.
- Shotguns go for low accuracy since it widens the pellet spread and makes headshotting multiple enemies easier. At almost any range spraying from the hip is your best option. This type of gameplay is completely antithetical to any other weapon type.
- Most shotguns require skills to be useful due to their generally low damage on higher difficulties. The point investment can heavily discourage their use since it limits build diversity.
This mod aims to fix these problems by adjusting shotguns in the following ways:
- Damage is now dealt per pellet instead of always in full. Getting up close and personal is now rewarded greatly.
- Pellet spread is now a fixed angle based on ammo type and pellet counts have been made realistic. Spread distribution has also been normalized so pellets are more likely to clump where you're aiming. This change combined with the previous one encourages more experimentation with ammo types.
- Accuracy now determines where the center of the spread is considered to be pointing, making it and aiming far more important.
- Shotgunner has been reworked to move away from damage bonuses and instead focus more on utility. Spending points should now provide QoL buffs instead of being mandatory.
General changes:
- Damage has been increased significantly on shotguns to make up for the new per-pellet damage and removal of shotgun damage buffs
- Damage bonuses and penalties have been removed from all shotgun attachments (excluding ammo types)
- Fire rates have been tweaked to make shotguns more satisfying to fire by default (semi-auto fire has also been changed to feel smoother on all weapons)
- Shotgun magazine sizes have been made more realistic
- Accuracy has been buffed and stability nerfed across all shotguns
- Ammo pickups have been tweaked to make shotguns reasonably sustainable (yes, including the Judge)
A full change log is included in the main folder of the mod.
Known issues:
- Joceline/Mosconi reload animations don't match reload time
Future plans:
- Further rebalancing
- Improve assets
