Introducing the Baba Yaga Perk Deck!
A new perk deck with new, custom-written effects and upgrades, encouraging a risky, high-skill head-clicking playstyle.
I know there's at least two other "John Wick" perk decks out there but I wanted to make one that was more true to his style, instead of just slightly tweaking or adding bonuses that are already in the game- hence, the custom effects. The Hitman perk deck, with its weapon-specific buffs, meaningless armor regen speed, and cheap armorgate mechanic, never felt particularly interesting or satisfying to play, although ostensibly it was meant to pair with John Wick's character and fighting style. Most perk decks mainly give defensive buffs (Infiltrator's melee damage stacking and Rogue/Grinder's armor-piercing are the only significant offensive perk deck upgrades I can think of), but after careful thought, I figured that a whole new perk deck was necessary to suit Wick's character, rather than simply tweaking Hitman.
This perk deck is difficult to use, but potentially more powerful than rogue. It rewards head-clicking ability, and bodyshot-stagger/headshot kill combos, just like John Wick does in the movie(s).
This mod may not play well with other gameplay-changing mods- it hooks onto several rather important functions which may be overridden by other mods. For best results, disable or uninstall other gameplay-changing mods before use.
Due to the intense combo ability of this perk deck, Baba Yaga benefits strongly from many normally questionably-useful skills such as Underdog, Heavy Impact, and Martial Arts Aced. Additionally, Baba Yaga (while strongly encouraging the use of LBV or Two-Piece Suit) is mostly weapon-agnostic, provided that the weapon can score headshots. You can use Assault Rifles, Pistols (which I favor), Sniper Rifles, Shotguns, or LMGs with this, as well as Akimbo variants with this perk deck. This perk deck does not grant health regen, because I believe that health regen is a lazy solution to making defensive benefits for perk decks. Git gud. Perk Deck tier descriptions:
Spoiler!
1. ONE
Killing enemies with a headshot will regenerate 1 point of armor.
This can only occur once every 1.5 seconds.
Your chance to dodge is increased by 15%.
3. Gun-Kata
Shooting an enemy in the body now has a 100% chance to knock them down.
This can only happen 3 times every 10 seconds. (An "exhale" audio cue plays when your Gun-Kata uses have regenerated.)
Does not apply to incendiary rounds.
5. Scorn
Increases your headshot damage by 50% against enemies who are staggered or knocked down.
Increases weapon swapping speed by 80%.
Fun fact: Did you know "Scorn" was the working title for the first "John Wick" film?
7. Men In Suits
Your chance to dodge is increased by 5% for ballistic vests.
Killing an enemy with a headshot will refund 1 use of Gun-Kata, allowing you to knock down another enemy.
9. I'm Back
Killing 2 enemies with headshots within 2 seconds now grants you 40% dodge chance for 6 seconds.
(A subtle "impact" audio cue when this ability is triggered. The noise resembles a "punch" sfx, and is in fact the "goat_headbutt" sfx noise.)
Known Issues:
- Visual cues for when "ONE"/"Gun-Kata"/"...I'm Back" are triggered, in the HUD?
- Dodge bonus for ballistic vests may apply in odd fashions or give odd dodge amounts. I have no idea why this happens.
- If you are bad at video games then you will die frequently while using this perk deck
- People die when they are killed
Planned:
* Damage resistance against close-range enemies?
- Make Gun-Kata's knockdown apply to your melee attacks?
- Counter-strike enemies who melee you while you are reloading?
- Art that is not bad
- Code that is not bad
If you have questions or comments about this mod, or opinions regarding its balance, feel free to leave a comment here or send me a Steam message/Discord Message/messenger pigeon. If you encounter a bug, please attach a crashlog (if applicable) and a description of how it happens/when it happens/what happens, and I'll fix it ASAP. In fact, I'd really love some feedback on this! I know it's not the most elegantly written, but I hope to make the game interesting and fun in new ways for people- hearing what people think and how they might like to change it will help me do that. Also it makes me happy.
