I realized one day that I never used LMGs in any of my DW or OD builds, primarily because they didn't seem viable at all. The damage output was too low, and hitting anything at range was impossible. I decided to correct that, and add a few enhancements to the LMG weapon class as a whole to make them strong and worth bringing along in your 4 man crew to do what they were intended to do: lock down an area completely and steamroll enemies in the process.
All LMGs are basically side-grades to each other now, so choose the one you like the most! As a side note, if anyone knows how I can properly get damage reduction when piercing shields working, please leave me a message so I can add it to this mod.
Global LMG Changes:
- All LMG shots now pierce through enemies and body armor.
- All LMG shots now pierce through shields.
- All LMG shots now penetrate through (most) walls and objects.
KSP 58:
- Base damage increased to 48
- Base accuracy increased to 60
- Base stability unchanged
KSP:
- Base damage increased to 48
- Base accuracy increased to 56
- Base stability unchanged
Brenner-21:
- Base damage increased to 44
- Base accuracy increased to 64
- Base stability unchanged
RPK:
- Base damage increased to 44
- Base accuracy increased to 56
- Base stability unchanged
Buzzsaw 42:
- Base damage increased to 42
- Base accuracy increased to 56
- Base stability unchanged
NOTES: With these changes and the available weapon mods and skill builds:
- It is now viable to spray enemies from close to mid-range using hip fire or ADS with manageable (but considerable) recoil.
- It is now possible to hit long range enemies and snipers using short controlled bursts with or without the use of the bipod, but if you set up the bipod you will land your shots much quicker due to the accuracy boost and elimination of recoil.
- All in all, these weapons can now reach respectable (80+) accuracy and stabilty, but cannot reach max values on both.
- When you set up the bipod to lock down an area and cover your teammates, it is LOCKED DOWN. Shots piercing through enemies increases your damage output considerably on crowds of enemies allowing you to hold back pushes while your teammates handle an objective, use deployables, or revive someone.
