DOWNGRADES.
Around update 68.1, Overkill replaced textures for melee weapons from DLC's like the Alesso Heist and Butcher's Western Pack with terribly low-res ones. I didn't think Overkill would be downgrading firearm textures, though. They downsized a lot of environment textures soon after this.
The minute I read "changed resolution of textures to improve performance" for update 68.1, I extracted game files before downloading what would be the first "ugly graphics" update. Being the graphics whore I am, I have since been paranoid of this halving being made to the game and have kept backing up HQ images since.
We got NPC texture downgrades after Crimefest 2015. After that, we were getting huge non-content updates for a while which makes me think this was them replacing tons of textures with lower-res ones. OVERKILL started to silently downsize images after putting content out. I do not agree with DLC content getting this treatment after showing off high-quality assets in trailers they want to sell us DLC with. Look at the screenshot comparisons. The differences are bad. Would you pay for this ? I wouldn't have. Misadvertisement.
To Overkill: STOP DOWNGRADING THE GAME
That Baby Deagle(aka Jericho 941) has awful looking textures. And that KSP 58's 2D rails are ridiculous. You hacked up the M249 model and didn't do anything about those rails ? The people who buy your DLC's and microtransactions deserve better looking assets in their game. And you put out a free gun that looks bad ? Really shows the community your love.
We know it's the PC community that you profit the most from. You better not be using consoles or low-end PC's as excuses. If game size or performance is a problem, give us a HQ texture pack. Don't force low-res images on high-end users.
And stop with those damn stability tests for windows XP. It's is an unreasonably outdated OS.
To MODDERS: Use the textures in the up'd archives for skin making. If you are extracting after Crimefest 2015, you don't have the HQ textures I've shown. But there are more than what you see in screenshots. Get the regular archive and the extra archive.
