This is an update to Basic Voices (PD:TH Vocalizer) by Buurazu. The history of this mod is pretty fun; it was made for PD2, ported to PDTH, updated to add binds, and now here's me cleaning it up for ease of use.
CHANGELOG FOR MOD OVERALL:
-
Removed broken binds/lines left over from PAYDAY 2 version of Basic Voices.
-
Reformatted in-game hint popups and rewrote preview text for many, many lines to be more accurate and concise.
-
Added Sniper Callout Button, a hotkey dedicated to warning about snipers in the area:
- Some heists have built-in sniper lines, this uses those where available. First World Bank, Panic Room, Green Bridge, and Undercover.
- For the rest of heists, I got creative with other lines which hopefully work in-context. No Mercy's line is "they're in the vents!", since there's no snipers anyways.
-
Changed behavior of "Check on Drill" button to only play the 'we have to fix the drill' lines if something is actually broken.
- Instead, your character will not say anything or, infrequently, comment that 'this drill sucks'.
-
Consolidated binds for similar lines into single buttons with random selection; fewer binds to worry about with more dialogue:
- MOVE FASTER, GO! is "Move it!", "Faster", "Hurry Up", and 4 variants of "Go faster" escort lines.
- CAN'T STAY, LET'S GTFO! is "Can't stay here", "Time to go", and "Get out".
- SWEARING is the usual "Fuck, shit!" lines most often, with a more devastated "Ohhh, shiiiit." on occasion.
- FIGHT ON, LADS! is "War Cry", "Shoot Em!", "Keep Defending", "We're Overrun", and "Careful". Weighted to be War Cry (which only works on assault) more often, other lines are infrequent.
-
Improved legacy functionality for voice menus from the older builds of Basic Voices.
-
Reordered Mission Lines to be useful during the normal course of play:
- Generally, lines are in order of time from the start of the heist to end, with some exceptions for ease of use.
- On Panic Room, No Mercy, and Diamond Heist, "Stealth" Lines are frontloaded, to be easier to access during the stealth phase.
- Diamond Heist's rare Red Diamond lines are all at the end of the list.
- Lines that are easily available elsewhere or play properly & frequently in-game are removed from list.
- Sniper call lines aren't in the list since there's a button for that now.
- Rare event lines that work in vanilla aren't listed (Wilson's Wall, Garage Doors Open).
- Diamond Heist has every main-dialogue line available since they often break, or to have characters banter more.
- Lines that normally only play from bots in vanilla are available (Panic Room's "Look at all that cash! That's CRAZY!")
-
Character-specific lines will no longer be listed for characters that cannot speak them:
- For instance, Wolf's post-launch heist voice line lists are much more robust.
- Chains and Wolf both have extra generic lines available.
- Some Hoxton lines have never worked correctly, such as "Huge crane!" on Slaughterhouse. Those have also been removed.
-
Added unused dialogue to heists where it makes sense and is useful:
- Heat Street has 'watch out for the swat van!' lines.
- Panic Room has lines commenting on the size of the hole left by your C4, and the location of the drug lab.
-
Added new lines to No Mercy to fill in gaps for other characters lacking dialogue:
- It turns out Diamond Heist and First World Bank's entire soundbanks are loaded into No Mercy by default!
- "Got it, precious!" for picking up MooMoo.
- "You pushed the button?!" for panic button being hit.
- "We gotta get out of this damn lobby!" for players overextending from the ICU.
- "Your move Bain, we're waiting!" for waiting on elevator.
- "Liftoff/Off to Daddy" for getting into lift and going up.
-
Updated Generic Voice Menu lists, reorganized into new categories:
- INFORM has "I'm on it", Working on Drill and I'll Help you lines, mission success lines, etc.
- TIMER has "Wait for it", relative time left, and specific time increment callouts (30 sec, 1 min, etc. up to 2:30). Written as both 0:00 format and total seconds.
- COMBAT has "Shoot em!", "Keep defending!", "Out of line of fire", "Get the fuck down!". Wolf also has "watch my back" "keep them off me" and "inspire" lines (why are you down? get up!).
- RESOURCES is mostly meant for control phase. "Use cable ties", "Take out cameras". "Handcuffed" lines for the rare circumstance you get cuffed by a guard, or mods for cloaker cuffing. (Plus some low-spoken "I'm out of trip mines" lines).
- POLICE has "Assault incoming" (during control phase, meant for use during buildup), "Cops are here", "We're overrrun". Chains also has "Helicopter insertion!".
- DIRECTIONS is what it says on the tin. Left, right, upstairs, wrong way, keep going etc. etc. etc.
-
Other tiny optimizations, typo fixes in old code. Y'all did incredible work, no disrespect.
LITE VERSION AVAILABLE!! CHANGELOG FOR HEISTER COMMS VARIANT SPECIFICALLY:
-
All the above changes.
-
Removed binds for meme lines. No hate, but not how I want this version of the mod to be used:
- Taser Gurgle (funny, sure, but overplayed).
- Accomplice Lines (they already play as they should).
- Bain's Lines (confuses new players, which the game could always use).
-
Added "Catchphrase" button for every heist for non-interruptive contextual banter:
- FWB isn't heat speech, that's in the mission lines. Instead "bank guards! why so many?"
- Using Diamond Heist's "it has to be worth tens of millions!" for No Mercy works perfectly.
Q/A:
Q: When and why did you make this mod?
A: When messing with PDTH mods in early 2025, I cleaned up Basic Voices to get rid of all the unusable and broken lines. Then I just sorta... kept cleaning it up, messing with it, and it became Heister Comms. After that, I was busy with interviewing PAYDAY's level designer. Eventually, I was asked by a friend if she could get the mod for herself, but I didn't want to over-complicated the install process for her. Since I made the mod with my own preferences in mind, I went back and made a feature-full improvement on Basic Voices with the lines & binds I wasn't personally using added back in, so that it could be installed as a simple update to Basic Voices With Binds. Finally, I asked the author of that mod for permission to release this, and here we are.
Q: Do I have to uninstall the old Basic Voices With Binds to install this?
A: Unless you're using the Heister Comms version, ideally, no! This should work as an update for the old mod, just drag and drop and replace the files when asked. If you'd prefer the meme-free version, uninstall the old Basic Voices w/ binds before installing Hcomms.
Q: What happens if I install both Basic Voices 1.3 and Heister Comms at the same time?
A: Don't do that.
Q: What do I need installed to make this mod work?
A: Third Person Lines is a requirement.
Q: A voice line I selected doesn't play. What's wrong?
A: Some lines only work during assault or control phase, or in pseudo-assaults the game uses for certain moments (intro to Slaughterhouse, getting caught on Diamond Heist). You can usually tell what 'state' the game is in by if the music in calmer or more intense. Some of those lines include: Assault Incoming, Cable Ties, No Civ Casualties (Control only), Battle Cry (Assault Only), and many Mission lines which only play under the proper state. If you know for a fact it's not any of that, let me know. I might've missed something.
Q: Why does Wolf have so much more dialogue?
A: Wolf's actor was Ulf Andersson, director of PDTH. He was readily available. More on that here. He and Simon Viklund would record placeholder voicelines, some of which are still in the files.
Q: I'm having an issue with auto-updating?
A: I'm hoping that by uploading both mods to the same page I don't break the auto-updates. Basic Voices is set to auto-update from this page, but Heister Comms does not have auto-updates. Hopefully, it won't need to be updated. If the auto-updating on Basic Voices doesn't work, or if you somehow get it overwritten automatically by Heister Comms when it attempts to auto-update, please let me know.
Q: I want to remove or rearrange X line, can you do that for me?
A: With Notepad++, it should be pretty easy to do yourself! I have cleaned up and organized the code, and commented things that may be of use to you. Happy hunting!
